Northeast Geotechnical provided design phase geotechnical engineering services and follow up construction phase observation and testing services (soils, concrete, and pavement testing) for FedEx distribution center projects in Wilmington, Quincy and Billerica, MA.

The Quincy, MA project consisted of renovation of an existing warehouse, construction of a new truck enclosure building, and new pavements. Recommendations for this project included ground improvement with rigid inclusions for support of spread footing foundations based on the presence of buried organic materials, preloading of a pavement area where compressible organic materials were encountered, reinforcement of difficult subgrade soils with geotextile geogrid in proposed pavement areas, and new pavement sections. This project also included off-site roadway improvements.

The Billerica, MA project included renovation of an existing warehouse building, new pavements and noise barrier site walls. Recommendations included subgrade preparation for new spread footing foundations for the building renovations, and drilled shaft foundations for the site walls.

The two Wilmington, MA projects included renovations of existing warehouse buildings, new pavements as well as construction of a new security building. Recommendations included subgrade preparation for new spread footing foundations, partial overexcavation and replacement of unsuitable subgrade soils in proposed pavement areas, underdrains, and new pavement sections.
