Northeast Geotechnical provided geotechnical engineering services for Wegmans Food Markets projects in Burlington, Westwood, Chestnut Hill and Natick, MA.

The projects included the construction of one to two story grocery stores ranging in footprint area from 75,000± to 140,000± square feet. The projects ranged from new ground up construction to renovation of an existing building to accommodate the food market. The Burlington, MA project included construction of an associated two story parking garage.

Northeast Geotechnical’s services included design phase geotechnical engineering services, pre-construction consultation, and construction phase services.

Design phase services provided for the Burlington, MA project included coordination and observation of a subsurface exploration program consisting of soil test borings, test pits and borehole permeability testing. We prepared recommendations pertaining to excavation and replacement of existing fill materials within the proposed building and parking garage areas, bedrock excavation including treatment of overblasted rock, slab support, and flexible and rigid pavement sections.

Pre–construction consultation services provided for the projects included coordination and review of building pad construction by others prior to turnover to Wegmans Food Markets, assistance with development of flexible and rigid pavement and exterior slab details, assistance with development of earthwork specifications, and participation in pre-bid meetings.

Construction phase services consisted of earthwork observation, soils testing, rebar assembly assessment, concrete testing, and pavement testing. At the request of Wegmans Food Markets, Northeast Geotechnical subcontracted, coordinated and supervised a testing firm that performed structural inspections, fireproofing inspections, and floor flatness/levelness testing.
