Monoosnoc Brook Slope Repairs and Culvert Replacement

Water
Scope of Service Development, Subsurface Explorations, Geotechnical Engineering Studies, Geotechnical Engineering Report Preparation

The project includes replacement of existing retaining walls and an existing culvert along the Monoosnoc Brook. The existing walls along the open section of the Brook are planned to be replaced with either pre-cast concrete segmental block walls or cast-in-place concrete retaining walls. The existing culvert located below the parking lot is planned to be replaced with either a pre-cast concrete culvert system or a cast-in-place concrete culvert.

Northeast Geotechnical performed design phase geotechnical engineering studies that included coordination and logging of soil test borings, laboratory testing on selected soil samples, and preparation of recommendations for use in design and construction. Bedrock coring was performed during the test borings to assess bedrock type and condition. Laboratory testing included direct shear testing to assess soil strength parameters.

Our geotechnical engineering recommendations pertained to: allowable soil and bedrock bearing capacities for use in foundation design; maximum allowable rock-grout bond stress for bedrock pinned foundations; lateral earth pressures on retaining walls; seismic design criteria; and earthwork construction including foundation subgrade preparation, fill gradation criteria and minimum compaction percentages.
